Does California Embrace The LGBTQ Community?
When it comes to LGBT rights, which have gained national recognition since the 1970s, the state is regarded as one of the country’s most liberal states. Since 1976, same-sex relationships have been permitted in the state. In 2003, the state passed laws prohibiting discrimination based on gender identity or expression and sexual orientation.
The legal gender of transgender people can also be changed on their official documents without the need for any medical treatment, and mental health professionals aren’t allowed to give minors conversion therapy.
The Census Bureau started a series of national surveys in July 2021 that included inquiries about gender identity and sexual orientation. Results are noteworthy, particularly for California. The state has the most significant population of LGBT people in the country at 2.7 million!
