The Fae Queen's Captive: A Dark Sapphic Romance Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 693 ratings

Save some of your screams for the queen, there’s a good girl…

Janneth Carter has given up on magic these days. She’s done being curious, insatiable, dreamy; she just wants to finish her graduate degree and spend the rest of her life as a sensible archeologist. So the last thing she expects when she goes to her dig site on Halloween night is three mysterious strangers standing outside an ancient Scottish grave.

Okay, well the actual last thing she expects is for those strangers to kidnap her and drag her into fairyland.

Once in the vivid, carnal world of Faerie, Janneth is at the mercy of the coldly lovely and incredibly cruel Stag Queen. Desperate to get home to her own world, she offers the Queen a bargain: she’ll be a willing captive, the queen’s pet, so long as the Queen promises to keep her safe until Janneth leaves Faerie.

But fae promises are complicated things, and nothing in Faerie, even pleasure—even love—comes without a price…

I didn’t know what to expect when I bought the entire Peculiar Taste series, but I knew I have enjoyed many other books by the authors, and I adore Halloween and non-horror fantasy books, so I was sure I would enjoy them at the very least.
This book, however, exceeded every expectation on the romance, 🥵🔥physical chemistry and intimacy levels, and fantasy realm being intertwined with reality.
The lead characters are entirely believable with real emotions and motivations, and show that love exists in so many forms. I especially enjoyed the unique aspects of the Fae world, and how the details were able to cross over to the earthly plane in a believable manner. The leads were sympathetic and relatable, with noble and selfish motives just like all of us. This tale smashed all my pumpkins! (The other books in the series are better than expected also, but this one sang to my heart!)

    I very much enjoyed this.
There was a real story woven in here amongst all the hedonism and typical fairie trickery.
Where it loses a star is that I really couldn’t get behind how fast all of this was happening. Yes, she may have known about her for over a year, but that was one-sided! How can they fall so deeply in love with one another after 2 nights knowing full well that the feelings are clouded on both sides? Considering they were both thinking of sacrificing their own life for the safety of the other.
Weird but made for a nice story.

The story in this was…interesting but not enough that it gripped me. I love that it’s a FF romance and I love that the MC is extremely comfortable with herself and her…promiscuities. It’s a quick read for sure as well.

I would do horrible things for Simone to write more dark sapphic fantasy. This was a great read. Sexy and romantic all at once.

I was surprised when the killing of the mortal was mentioned lol, other then that this was a very interesting story. I have just started reading this author, and I found it interesting to read something different from her normal storytelling.

I’m utterly obsessed with this book, oh my god. I knew it existed because I read a different Peculiar Tastes book but I never thought of picking it up with much urgency. And then I saw a TikTok about it and ran to pick it up. Best. Decision. Ever. This was spicy, it was sweet, it had some stressful political intrigue that I was devouring. I’m going to need Sierra Simone to write an entire series about this world and the characters. Like, I’d read an entire 400 page book just about Morven and his sassy comebacks. This was amazing and I’m so so happy I read it.

This is my first sapphic romance. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about it, even though I’m queer myself. I figured I’d have really high standards when it came to a sapphic romance. But I love everything else I’ve read by Sierra Simone even though it was all contemporary romance. I was delighted by this story. It was erotic and tender. The heroine was full figured and flawed in unique ways that made her story arc make sense in the best ways. I loved this story and highly recommend it

This book was excellent!! So much was packed into the story in a short amount of time, but it was done seamlessly! I loved the humour and wit and sexiness of the characters, and the two mains were sizzling in their chemistry. Definitely worth the read.

I love the way the author shows off the humour, story lines , and the main plot so clearly . there was no diversion, it was to the point while introducing the characters. I just got the book today and finish it already. Thats how addicted it was and hard to keep it down even for a bit. I could have given a five star but the one star I left is because of the condition of the book . otherwise the story is superb and fantastic. Thank you author.

4.0 out of 5 stars A surprisingly refreshing fantasy romance!

I have to say, out of all the fae books and romances I've read, this one has the most refreshing and unique fae lore I've ever read. Fae aren't my favorite creatures to read about. They just don't appeal to me as much as other people. But this novella took fae to the next level. It was magical and whimsical and strange with steam. It's the perfect short read
