We were there in autumn.
We were there in autumn. It's a summer city ... sun, sea and surf. Not many cultural activities and the art gallery happened to be closed! Historic village, although mainly retail, was a pleasant couple of hours stroll through. Tauranga a good place for families I think. If you have a car you can have a great vacation here. The city itself is a perfect place for hiking for a spectacualr view (Maunganui summit), do some shopping (the city center is full of restaurants, shops), exploring history (Historic village, Elms foundation, Old Timer Cars community event), find extraordinary interesting and beatiful places around (Glow Worms+Waterfall at McLaren Falls, hiking at Kaiate Falls, visting Firth Tower at Matamata,...)Guest review byTamásNew Zealand - 10.0

There are amazing walks and bike trails by the water. Restaurants were excellent. Lots to do in Tauranga, The Mount and further afield. The Waterfront Restaurant in Tauranga was excellent. It's worth a drive out to Omokoroa on a nice day.Guest review byBlairNew Zealand - 10.0

Tauranga itself is a pretty, vibrant city with many attractions. We didn’t have nearly long enough to explore all that we wanted to see and could have planned better for seeing everything. We had day trips to Hobbiton and Rotorua. We would have been better staying closer to them but still having more time in Tauranga. Definitely visit Mauao Historic Reserve. Non-existent parking in town if you arrive after the bars open. Poorly planned city with just eateries, bars, 2 dollar shops and for lease signs. A truly badly planned city with little concern for visitors or retailers. A must miss city.Guest review byBrian

We enjoyed lovely meals at the Tauranga Club restaurant which was literally steps from our room door.
